# BPC-157

A 15-amino-acid fragment of a protein found in stomach juice. In rats it speeds the healing of tendons, muscle and gut. No randomized human trial has published results, and more than 80% of the research comes from one group.

Also called: Body Protection Compound, PL 14736, Wolverine stack (BPC-157 + TB-500)

## How it works

- Where it acts: No receptor has been identified. In animals it appears to boost new blood vessels and growth-factor and nitric-oxide signalling.
- What it changes: In rats, faster healing of tendons, muscle and the gut lining.
- What people notice: No controlled human trial has reported results. People report faster recovery, but placebo and natural healing can explain much of that.

## What the evidence shows

- **Tendon, ligament and muscle injuries**: Lab only. A 2025 systematic review of sports-injury research found 35 preclinical studies and one human study. A randomized, placebo-controlled trial in 120 people with hamstring strains has been recruiting since February 2026.
- **Knee pain, injected into the joint**: Early. One clinic reported on 12 patients with no comparison group. Most said the pain improved.
- **Ulcers and inflamed bowel**: Lab only. Animal studies, plus two early ulcerative-colitis enema trials that never published full results. A 2015 safety trial of an oral form never reported results.
- **General tissue healing**: Lab only. Animal studies only.

## Side effects and risks

- unknown: No clinical safety data, as published reviews state.
- unknown: It promotes new blood-vessel growth in animals. Nobody has tested whether that could help a tumor grow.
- serious: Product quality is unverified. The US Department of Defense warns of contamination, and FDA cites the risk of immune reactions to impurities.

Who should avoid it: Anyone with a history of cancer, competitive athletes, and anyone who cannot verify what is in the vial.

## How it has been given in studies

No established human dose. The only published human uses were one-off injections by a doctor into the knee joint or bladder wall, and an intravenous safety test in two volunteers. Self-injections and capsules sold online have no controlled human data.

## Legal status

- United States: undefined. Advisers backed compounding in July 2026. FDA staff opposed it, and FDA had not acted by late September 2026. Some states, including Ohio and Alabama, have tightened their own rules.
- European Union: undefined
- Spain: undefined. Neither AEMPS nor the EMA has approved BPC-157 as a medicine (El Confidencial, Aug 2026). No CIMA entry. Not lawful to sell to the public.
- Germany: undefined. Not approved in Germany. Selling it as a medicine without approval is a crime (AMG § 21, § 96). Rezeptur use could not be confirmed.
- France: undefined. Not authorised. Named in ANSM's Jul 2026 alert; about ten serious cases in France. ANSM: never use vials marked 'research use only'.
- Italy: undefined. No Italian authorisation found. Listed by WADA under S0 (non-approved substances). Research vials sold online are unverified.
- Netherlands: undefined. No marketing authorisation. Webshops sell it as 'research only', which IGJ says does not make it legal. Banned in sport (WADA S0).
- United Kingdom: undefined
- Canada: undefined. Named in a 2025 Health Canada advisory and its April 2026 warning.
- Australia: undefined. Schedule 4 and Appendix D of the Poisons Standard since 1 June 2024: possession without authority is illegal.

## Questions people ask

**Does BPC-157 actually work?**

In rats it speeds the healing of tendons, muscle and gut, but no randomized human trial has published results. A 2025 systematic review of sports-injury research found 35 preclinical studies and one human study, and more than 80% of the research comes from one group.

**Is BPC-157 legal?**

In the US, FDA advisers voted 8 to 6 in July 2026 to back compounding, but FDA staff opposed it and FDA had not acted by late September 2026. In Australia it has been Schedule 4 and Appendix D since 1 June 2024, so possession without authority is illegal. Health Canada named it in a 2025 advisory and an April 2026 warning.

**What are the side effects of BPC-157?**

There are no clinical safety data. Users report headache, tiredness and redness at the injection site, a minority describe flat mood or anxiety, and product quality is unverified.

**Can BPC-157 cause cancer?**

Nobody knows. It promotes new blood-vessel growth in animals, nobody has tested whether that could help a tumor grow, and people with a history of cancer are advised to avoid it.

**What is the Wolverine stack?**

A nickname for BPC-157 taken together with TB-500, mostly for injury recovery. No controlled human trial of BPC-157 has reported results.
